The Glacial Hydrology & Oceanography Group is hosted within the Laboratoire de Physique of ENS de Lyon in France. We blend physics research with polar oceanography and glacial hydrology to improve our understanding and modelling capability of remote and fragile regions on our planet. We collaborate with local colleagues but also researchers abroad. We are well connected to research labs in Marseille, Paris, and Grenoble and enjoy the proximity of the Alps.

Glaciers are melting and water is pooling into lakes that may burst through ice remnants, flooding and damaging downhill villages. We’re leveraging new physical models and field experiments to help Alpine communities understand glacial lake evolution and to help empty them before it’s too late.
